Electronic Commerce In Jakarta, 21-24 February 2000

The delivery of E-Commerce in Jakarta Indonesia was held on 21-24 February 2000 at the main office of Port Corporation II (PT.(Persero) Pelabuhan Indonesia II) Tanjung Priok Jakarta. It is a part of Phase I of the Program to Assist the Implementation of Electronic Commerce for Commercial Messages (TPT 01/99T) APEC Transportation Working Group Electronic Commerce Project. The Course was carried out by EQUANT.

The course was formally opened by Minister of Communications, Bapak Agum Gumelar, MSc. on 21 February 2000 in Mataram room Gedung Karya, Main office of the Ministry of Communications.

44 participants from 23 organizations were joining the E-Commerce Course consist of Government Officials, State Owned Companies, Bank, Exporters and Importers Association, Freight Forwarders, shipping lines, and air cargo handling officials.

The delivery of course materials (subjects) was divided into 4 sessions a day and delivered in lecture, discussion and workshop. Presentation by local suppliers at Day 4 was conducted by PT. EDI Indonesia, an EDI Provider in Indonesia, and Sterling Commerce from Singapore.

Site visit to EDI/E-Commerce user was held at Day 4 to Koja Container Terminal. During the visit, it was followed with discussions and EDI demonstrations.

At session 2 day 4, it was held an evaluation by distributing Questionnaire to the participants concerning the E-commerce Course. The result are : - 99% of participants insisted that the course is useful both for themselves and their organizations. 80% insisted that the delivery of course materials was complete, but still difficult to implement.

- it needs preparation for all related organizations before implementing E-Commerce.

- all participants insisted that they wish to join further course if any.

- the methodology of course delivery was systematic.
