APEC Seminar on Disaster Protection Measures
for Earthquakes in Ports
The 2nd Announcement at TPT-WG 17
Japan

PURPOSE

The members of APEC Port Experts Group and port-related people in Japan promote anti-seismic preparedness of ports through exchange of experience and knowledge on earthquake damage and anti-seismic countermeasures at ports.

BACKGROUND

TPT-WG 18 will be held in Miyazaki, Japan from 16th to 20th October 2000. Japan, as the Theme Coordinator of Theme 6, Natural Disasters and Damage Prevention Measures, proposes to hold the above APEC Seminar just before TPT-WG 18 at Kobe, where port facilities were devastated by the great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995 and they have been already recovered completely.
