Background information for Item 6 of the Shepherds/SCCs/HODs Agenda
Updating the TPT-WG Operational Plan
Lead Economies have all been provided with an electronic copy of their relevant sections of the current Operational Plan approved at TPT/18. These should be updated during the meeting as a result of expert/project sub-group activity, cleared by the appropriate Steering Committee Coordinator, and then given to the Lead Shepherd on Wednesday 4 April. The Lead Shepherd will then prepare a new consolidated document for approval by the Plenary meeting on Thursday.
Effective Communications
This Group cannot function successfully intersessionally unless our communications are effective. There are still communication deficiencies occurring, and all HODs are urged to ensure that their economies are not contributing to these. Examples are:
TPT-WG Management Team
The terms of the current management team expire at the end of this year and new appointments will need to be made for the calendar years 2002-2003.

Although decisions are not necessary at this meeting, economies should be giving thought to their ability to assume a management role in the Group in the near future. It is APEC policy to enhance wider participation, shared leadership, and to ensure that more members assume the role and responsibility of Lead Shepherd or Deputy Lead Shepherd Additionally, economies are not expected to serve beyond a maximum of two consecutive two-year terms as Lead Shepherd or Deputy Lead Shepherd.
Of the economies currently in management roles, by the end of this year:
Management roles have also been held by Canada (DLS & LS 1998-99) and Indonesia (Shepherd/LS 1990-1998).
The DLS and existing Coordinators should indicate their intentions as to availability in 2002-2003 if possible, and other members may wish to indicate availability for a management role.
